Prolotherapy
Prolotherapy is now available at Fit Foot Podiatry, offering a real treatment alternative with real results for many chronic or acute injuries, joint and nerve pain.
Prolotherpy is a safe, effective injection treatment using a mixture of local anaesthetic and glucose to stimulate collagen reformation, helping to re- strengthen and lengthen tendon and ligament fibres and stabilising their insertion sites. It is also used in the treatment of nerve pain. Prolotherapy can be used to treat:
- Achilles tendonopathy
- Ankle sprains and strains (chronic or acute)
- Ligament or tendon tears
- Shin splints
- Painful arthritic joints
- Toe deformities
- Nerve pain
The solution is injected into the painful areas (which may be multiple) and at the insertion sites of ligament and tendons. Mild inflammation occurs, stimulating the healing process. Mild pain relief may be needed, but normal activities may be resumed after treatment sessions.
Prolotherapy requires a proper diagnosis of dysfunctional joints, ligaments, tendons or nerves. Your Podiatrist will then prescribe an individual treatment for your particular problem. A series of injection sessions are usually needed over a time frame of initially 1 week then 2-3 weeks. During which time, your Podiatrist can advise you on what you can do to help the process.
