Let’s talk Shockwave Therapy

We’re delighted to announce that the team at Fit FootPodiatry can now offer Shockwave Therapy! Despite its name, this therapy doesn’t shock out – it’s there to help your body heal!

Shockwave therapy is a cutting-edge technology that uses high-intensity sound waves to help repair tissue that has been causing pain. It can travel through the skin and target scar tissue which is causing the problem.

Shockwave therapy is usually very effective where previous efforts have failed to fix notoriously stubborn complaints, especially in the case of a chronic heel and Achilles tendon pain.

What should youexpect with Shockwave Therapy?

We usually recommend a weekly treatment that can last up to 4 to 6 sessions to have maximum effect. Studies have shown that most clients will experience 85% improvement after three treatments. Of course, conditions that have been affecting you for a long time may take longer to treat.

We sit you comfortably and soft gel will be applied to the area being treated. A loud tapping sound will be heard as the shockwaves are generated, and you may feel some initial tingling before the pain-relieving effects take over.

Shockwave therapy is often used alongside other tactics we take to help tackle your issue. This could be changing your footwear, strapping or bracing, orthotics, weight loss, and activity modification.

Does Shockwave Therapy really work?

The science and research say YES – this is not just a fad treatment.

There are numerous published scientific studies, with the majority demonstrating positive outcomes when used on chronic heel pain or plantar fasciitis.

As we explained before approximately 80% of all patients report a substantial improvement of the condition after three treatment sessions. More recently, research has shown that when used in combination with good rehabilitation program, shockwave therapy has better outcomes than when either treatment is employed alone. And this is exactly what we do best!

At Fit Foot Podiatry we combine Shockwave Therapy with a number of other ways to help you get back on your feet as soon as possible.
